I recently read Ghost Train to the Eastern Star (which re-creates the trip described in The Great Railway Bazaar and comments on the earlier trip). Although I thought that the writing is better and more interesting in The Great Railway Bazaar, this book lacks the perspective on writing that makes Ghost Train to the Eastern Star special for authors/5(21). This page contains details about the Nonfiction book The Great Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux published in This book is the th greatest Nonfiction book of all time as determined by dr-peshev.com

What other book might you compare Great Railway Bazaar to and why? Roughin' It by Mark Twain only because it is written in a simalar style What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like? Bravo If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be? I can never be to close to that Iron rail. The Great Railway Bazaar is a travelogue written by Paul during his railway odyssey; bound from London, passing through European cities and countries which then later crossing borders to Istanbul.

The book became a classic of travel writing and created a model for the genre that today remains vibrantly alive. (The very interesting back story of this seminal work is relayed by Theroux in his book Ghost Train to the Eastern Star.) The Great Railway Bazaar is Theroux on steel wheels. He wasn't doing the gig for the travel industry. Ten-second book summary. First published in , Paul Theroux’s The Great Railway Bazaar chronicles the author’s four-month rail journey from England to Japan via the Middle East and Asia and back again via Russia. Despite its age or perhaps because of it, it’s a very entertaining and surprisingly honest and refreshing read.
